Hello! My name is Maddie Wagner. I am the founder of Maddie’s Quilts for Kids that is a nonprofit organization focused on providing hand-made quilts to children undergoing extensive hospital treatments around southern Illinois, Missouri, and Kentucky. I’ve been sewing almost my entire life, but this summer, I decided to put my talents to work to make a difference in the lives of children suffering from unimaginable hardships. Donations from the public completely fund each one of my quilts, and none of the money made by Maddie’s Quilts for Kids goes to my pockets. Making these quilts is a small act of kindness that I hope can make a big difference in the life of a child and their family.
As for a little bit about me, I am currently a senior at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign studying integrative biology with a minor in natural resources and environmental science. Though I live full-time in Champaign (for now), I was born and raised in Belleville, Illinois, about fifteen minutes east of St. Louis! When I’m not quilting or studying, I enjoy knitting, doing yoga, baking, watching Disney movies, cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals, and spending time with my two cats, Ollie and Oscar. After graduation, though I would love to sew full-time, I’m looking to begin a career as a zookeeper and hopefully become a zoo curator someday. I spend most of my time creating unique quilts as a part of my organization!
It is a running joke in my family that quilting runs in my blood, having come from a long line of quilters stretching back to my great-great-grandmother! My grandmothers taught me the basics of sewing to continue the tradition, but as they used to say, what use is talent if you don’t use it for good? Now you know what inspired me to begin Maddie’s Quilts for Kids so that I may use my passion to better my community! I am beyond excited to start my partnership with Book for Hope to create quilts for all the warriors represented by this wonderful organization. If you are interested in helping to keep this dream of mine going, please contact me at email@example.com. Thank you for welcoming me into the fantastic Book for Hope community, and I can’t wait to get started!

You see people in need almost every day. Whether they are hungry or hurting, the Bible says to give out of the overflow of love you have received from God. He will work through you as you serve food to those who are hungry, give clothing to those who need covering, offer hope to those who feel hopeless. You can serve them with gentle words and kind deeds. Serving the powerless is a blessing in itself, but it carries a bonus -God’s eternal reward
