Growing up, I never heard of a child diagnosed with cancer. Not a day goes by now that I don’t hear of someone newly diagnosed with cancer, whether a child, adolescent, or adult. What should be uncommon has become a common occurrence in the world we are living in. What happened? I believe our society has become lulled to sleep and deafened to the pleas for help from families with loved ones suffering from cancer. Cancer is the number one disease-related cause of death in children of all diseases combined. What will it take for people to wake from the spirit of slumber they are living in and realize it is time for cancer to be uncommon? It is time for a cure for cancer. Many people have informed me they don’t want to think about their child or loved one having cancer. With 47 children diagnosed with cancer daily in America, that is double the size of a classroom; I hope you never hear the words your child/grandchild has cancer. Last year, there were nearly 17,000 new cases of childhood cancer. I often think about the statistics and realize that 1 out of 8 children diagnosed with cancer will not survive. I think about that when Book for Hope accepts a new family with a child battling cancer. Book for Hope’s charitable childhood cancer organization is growing, and so is the increase in childhood cancer. When will we wake out of our sleep? I speak to the spirit of slumber and say, “Awake!” It is past time for a cure for all cancer. If there is something to unite for and fight, it is cancer. #Unite #FightCancer Everyone can do something. Prayer is a powerful weapon! Please join Book for Hope in the fight against cancer. I am awake. Are you?
